Sheila Chaila is a Master of Arts student in Global African Studies at The Africa Institute, Global Studies University, specializing in Museum and Critical Heritage Studies. Originally from Zambia, Sheila works in heritage conservation with a focus on the interpretation and representation of political and liberation heritage sites. She examines how such sites are curated, narrated, and engaged within broader historical, political, and social frameworks. Her research explores liberation heritage sites, heritage conservation, critical heritage studies, cultural memory, community engagement, exhibition practices, and the politics of postcolonial narratives. Sheila’s work investigates how museums and heritage spaces can foster inclusive, reflective, and socially grounded knowledge production while contributing to policy, conservation, and public engagement practices.
"GSU’s atmosphere is built on genuine connection and support. From the moment I arrived, it felt like stepping into a community where collaboration comes naturally and everyone is invested in one another’s success. The mentorship culture is especially significant, with faculty and peers offering consistent guidance that has supported my academic and professional development."
