Global Studies University offers a community-centered Language Program in Arabic, Amharic, Hausa, and Kiswahili for non-native speakers. Launched in 2023 and licensed by the Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA), the courses form part of the Languages and Translation Program and promote cultural understanding and access to less commonly taught languages in the UAE.
The program is open to students, professionals, researchers, heritage learners, educators, and other members of the community interested in language and culture. Courses are taught by faculty from The Africa Institute and are offered through online, in-person, or hybrid instruction, depending on the language and course.
The Language Program is offered across Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced proficiency levels.
Each full proficiency level consists of two parts:
Learners must successfully complete both parts, totaling 72 hours, to complete a full proficiency level and receive a certificate.
The following courses are currently open for registration:
*Students enrolling above Elementary I are required to complete a free placement test to confirm that they meet the necessary prerequisites. Continuing students progressing to the next level are not required to take the test.
*Elementary II, Intermediate II, and Advanced courses may be offered subject to a minimum of three enrollments per class. To register your interest, please email languages@gsu.ac.ae.
