Ph.D. in Global Studies

Sultan Alhussain Alhammadi is a Ph.D. student in Global Studies, specializing in Historical, Political, and Social Studies at Global Studies University. His research focuses on urban conservation and heritage studies, with particular attention to built heritage in historically connected coastal regions. He is interested in how architecture and urban form reflect centuries of cultural exchange, migration, and trade, and how these histories are remembered or overlooked within contemporary heritage practices.

Rather than approaching heritage through rigid national narratives, Sultan examines transregional frameworks that recognize shared urban legacies and cross-cultural flows. He draws on architectural documentation, archival sources, and comparative urban analysis, grounding his work in practice through his role as Director of the Department of Projects, Restoration, and Properties at the Sharjah Institute of Heritage, where he leads conservation projects and teaches architectural heritage.

His research aims to contribute to a globally contextualized view of conservation, bridging past and present, and promoting heritage as a dynamic field shaped by both local histories and regional entanglements.
