Ph.D. in Global Studies

Mifta Zeleke Berga is a Ph.D. student in Global Studies at Global Studies University (Fall 2025), specializing in Cultural, Visual, and Literary Studies, from Ethiopia. His research examines Ethiopian contemporary art through an interdisciplinary lens, drawing on both existing and absent archives and exhibition records to advance critical discourse. Mifta is particularly interested in representation and decolonization, exploring how these dynamics shape the understanding and presentation of Ethiopia’s and Africa’s contemporary art. Building on his experience in curatorial practice and institution building, he aims to expand both his academic and professional work by engaging with networks connecting African art scholarship and global art institutions. His research bridges practice and theory, contributing to a deeper understanding of contemporary African visual culture.
