From January 24 to 27, 2025, several prominent African authors participated in the inaugural Sharjah Festival of African Literature (SFAL), organized by the Sharjah Book Authority. The Africa Institute (GSU) was also present at the festival, showcasing its programs and publications.

On January 28, following the festival, The Africa Institute welcomed a delegation of authors led by Kenyan writer Yvonne Owuor. Owuor, the 2024 awardee of the third Tejumola Olaniyan Creative Writers-in-Residence Fellowship at The Africa Institute, was also a featured speaker at SFAL, discussing her book The Dragonfly Sea. The delegation included Jennifer Makumbi (Uganda), Peter Kimani (Kenya), Chika Unigwe (USA/Nigeria), Petina Gappah (Zimbabwe), and Cheryl Ntamy. The authors met with Professor Salah M. Hassan, Chancellor of Global Studies University and Dean of The Africa Institute, and Binyam Mendisu, Associate Dean of the Institute and Professor of African Languages and Linguistics, to discuss potential future collaborations in creative writing and literary exchange.
