On November 26, the Sharjah House of Poetry hosted readings by poets from Yemen, Nigeria, and Senegal. Aliyu Mustapha Lawal, Lecturer of Hausa at The Africa Institute, Global Studies University, read Arabic poetry, including a poem dedicated to the UAE and an excerpt from “A Dance on the Panels.”

The evening was hosted by Moroccan poet Mariam Kouiss and attended by poet and House Director Mohammed Abdullah Al Buraiki, along with critics, poets, and poetry enthusiasts. Lawal shared the stage with Zohair Al Tahari of Yemen and Mohamed Al Amin Diop of Senegal.

The Africa Institute offers online language certification courses in Hausa, Arabic, Kiswahili, and Amharic, from elementary to advanced levels. January 2026 registrations are open, with Lawal teaching Hausa.
