Alya Rashid Burhaima, a Ph.D. student in Global Studies at Global Studies University specializing in Cultural, Visual, and Literary Studies, was elected to the Executive Board of ICOM UAE during the General Assembly on February 14, 2026 at the Zayed National Museum. The election results were announced by Dr. Mona Al Ali, with the new Board led by President Salama Nasser Al Shamsi.
Burhaima joined the Ph.D. program in Fall 2025. She brings more than fifteen years of experience at the Sharjah Museums Authority, where she developed exhibitions, educational programs, and strategies to strengthen connections between museums and their communities. Her research focuses on Emirati private museums, examining sustainability, policy frameworks, and their role in preserving cultural heritage.
