On April 23, 2025, MA students in Global African Studies at The Africa Institute, Global Studies University, came together in Sharjah to celebrate Easter with food, laughter, and community. Organized by members of the cohort, the Easter Sunday lunch took place at Akkoo Cafe and Restaurant in Dubai and Racks Board Game Cafe in Sharjah.

“It was a great day,” said student Mantate Queeneth. “Our Ethiopian colleagues put this together, and a substantial number of us came. We had lunch, laughed a lot, and went to play games after—it was a great way to relax before the new week.”

This celebration reflects the ways in which students are cultivating connections beyond the classroom. Whether organizing outings or sharing cultural traditions, the MA cohort continues to foster a welcoming and dynamic environment—one that enriches their academic journey through friendship and shared experiences.
