Amer Ahmed, an MA student in Global African Studies specializing in Diplomacy and Africa’s International Relations, represented The Africa Institute at GSU during the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Brazil from November 10 to 21, 2025. Drawing on his coursework, he participated in multilateral negotiations and policy discussions on Africa’s global climate priorities.

Reflecting on the experience, Amer said, “Attending COP30 gave me the chance to see the practical application of classroom lessons in real-world conversations, from multilateral negotiations to discussions on Africa’s role globally. It strengthened my commitment to contributing meaningfully to Africa’s diplomatic and global future while proudly carrying the name of GSU wherever I go.”
