On February 25, 2026, seven students from the MA in Global African Studies, specializing in Museum and Critical Heritage Studies, visited Jameel Arts Centre as part of the course GAS 616: Museum Management and Heritage as a Career. The visit was organized by Kristina Dziedzic Wright, 2025 Okwui Enwezor Postdoctoral Fellow, with Philathia Bolton, Interim Chair of the Department of Humanities and Associate Professor of African and African Diaspora Literature and Cultural Studies, also in attendance.
Students engaged with the Centre’s sustainability initiatives, including a discussion on its community garden and the Tarabot interspecies habitat sculpture, linking museum practice with environmental advocacy. The group also explored transcultural artistic exchange through the exhibition Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook: The Bouquet and the Wreath, developed in partnership with MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum in Thailand. The visit provided hands-on insight into the intersection of museum management, heritage, and ecological and cross-cultural engagement.
